REDD+ Strategy for forest carbon sequestration in India

چکیده
Deforestation and forest degradation due to land use, cover change (LULCC) have become one of the prime contributors global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, after fossil fuel combustion. Greenhouse emission from forestry is occurring in atmosphere as a result biomass combustion, fires decomposition deadwood materials. This how increasing carbon dioxide adding warming climate change. Many worldwide recognized studies measured that ecosystems capacity absorb more than 1/3rd total which minimum requirement for keeping atmospheric temperature under 2 °C by 2030. One commonly accepted methods reducing sequestration through forests. India has committed capture 2.5 3 billion tonnes CO2 enhancing tree To achieve this target, adopted REDD+ (Reducing Emissions Forest Degradation) strategy aims mitigate incentivizing conservation. Furthermore, strives address drivers deforestation also provides roadmap stocks enhancement sustainable management actions. study investigates contribution against sequestration.

Scenarios in tropical forest degradation: carbon stock trajectories for REDD+
BACKGROUND Human-caused disturbance to tropical rainforests-such as logging and fire-causes substantial losses of carbon stocks. This is a critical issue to be addressed in the context of policy discussions to implement REDD+. This work reviews current scientific knowledge about the temporal dynamics of degradation-induced carbon emissions to describe common patterns of emissions from logging a...
متن کاملForest Carbon Sequestration: Some Issues for Forest Investments
A major problem being faced by human society is that the global temperature is believed to be rising due to human activity that releases carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, i.e., global warming. The major culprit is thought to be fossil fuel burning, which is releasing increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The problem of increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide can be addressed a n...
متن کاملCarbon Sequestration in Central European Forest Ecosystems
The forests of Central Europe play an important role in the retention of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Carbon sequestration is rarely the main objective of forest management and is often an underappreciated by-effect of practical forest management, whereas timber production and protection against natural hazards in mountain regions are the main forest functions. Climate change is expected to alte...

Recent focus has been given to US forests as a sink for increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide. Current estimates of US forest carbon sequestration average approximately 20 Tg (i.e. 10(12) g) year. However, predictions of forest carbon sequestration often do not include the influence of hurricanes on forest carbon storage. Intense hurricanes occur two out of three years across the eastern US. ...
